The construction of the second hot strip mill with 1.5 million mt per year capacity by Krakatau Steel, the leading flat steel producer in Indonesia, will be completed by the end of this year and production will be launched in early 2020, slightly later than originally planned, the company has stated.

As a result, the total hot rolled coil (HRC) capacity of Krakatau Steel will increase to 3.9 million mt per year with a possibility to expand it up to 6.4 million mt per year. After the launch of the second hot strip mill, local HRC capacities in Indonesia will be enough to cover all feedstock demand in the country and there will be no need to import, said Krakatau Steel president Silmy Karim.

Krakatau Steel posted record monthly production of 203,315 mt and sales of 164,284 mt in October.
