Khorasan Steel officially starts production at its second DRI plant

The second direct reduced iron (DRI) module of Iranian steelmaker Khorasan Steel has been officially put into operation at a ceremony attended by Iranian vice president.Mohammad Reza Rahimi on February 11.

The second DRI module has a designed annual capacity of 800,000 mt of sponge iron, capable of being increased up to 900,000 mt, and has cost an investment of about Iranian Rials 1.5 trillion.

Khorasan Steel will use the new DRI plant to feed its second meltshop, which is currently under constuction. The steelmaker's first DRI module was commissioned in early 2010.
