Iran-based Ghadir Iron and Steel, a Midrex direct reduced iron (DRI) module with an annual capacity of 800,000 mt, will be put in operation in the next few months. Construction work on the project, 80 percent of which has so far been completed, is being carried out by two Iranian state-owned contractors, Iritec and Irasco, through an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract.
The iron making plant will be fed by the Ardakan pelletizing plant, which is a subsidary of the state-owned Chador Malu Mining and Industrial Co., while the output of the plant will be supplied to Iran Alloy Steel, the country's main producer of alloy steel, and to some other steel plants in neighboring cities. Ghadir Iron and Steel is located in Ardakan city in central Iran.
