Kardemir’s crude steel output up 18.7 percent in H1

Turkish integrated long steel producer Kardemir Karabuk Demir Celik Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S. (Kardemir) has announced that in the first half of the current year its crude steel production increased by 18.7 percent to 1.22 million mt and its pig iron production rose by 20 percent to 1.11 mt, both compared to the same period of 2016. 

In the first six months, the company’s total rail, section and angle production amounted to 215,000 mt, up 25 percent year on year, while its total finished steel production increased by 45.3 percent year on year to 654,000 mt. Meanwhile, in the given period, the company produced 103,000 mt of bar-in-coil at its new rod and coil mill.

Kardemir stated that it achieved production and sales targets in the first half of this year and aims to achieve crude steel production of 2.45 million mt for the whole year.

Meanwhile, in the current year and in 2018 the company aims to be among the top 30 industrial enterprises in Turkey, rising from its current 34th place in the list of Turkey's top 500 industrial enterprises of the Istanbul Chamber of Industry (ISO), while in 2019 it aims to be among the top 20 industrial enterprises with a targeted annual production capacity of 3.5 million mt.
