India’s JSW Steel Limited and Japanese steelmaker JFE Steel Corporation have signed a joint agreement according to which JFE will provide technology for production of cold rolled non-oriented electrical steel sheets (CRNGO) at JSW’s Vijayanagar plant in Karnataka, according to a statement issued by JSW Steel.

By using JFE Steel’s electrical steel manufacturing technology, JSW Steel will produce CRNGO grade steel and supply it to customers in India including Japanese, European and US affiliated companies operating in the country.

JSW Steel will be able to respond to customer needs for electrical steel sheets which are mostly imported into India due to technological constraints.

JSW Steel stated that it will start up its new annealing and coating line for electrical steel sheets in the second half of 2014 with an initial annual production capacity of 200,000 mt, gradually increasing to 600,000 mt.
