Luxembourg-based plantmaker Paul Wurth has announced that it has modernized the blast furnace No. 1 at Indian steel producer Jindal South West Steel’s (JSW Steel) Vijayanagar Works in Karnataka, India.

Paul Wurth stated that 83 percent of the nominal production capacity was achieved within the first week of operation. The target production was surpassed for the first time on March 9.

The daily production rate of the furnace is now 5,250 mt for a total yearly iron production of about 1.7 million mt, 89 percent more compared to before the modernization. According to Paul Wurth, these figures represent one of the largest capacity increases ever seen from one single blast furnace rebuild.
