Jordan’s ADC extends EOI deadline date for New Port of Aqaba construction

Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC), the central development arm for the Aqaba Special Economic Zone (ASEZ) in Jordan announced last week the extension of the submission date for expression of interest (EOI) in the construction of the marine works for the New Port of Aqaba. The new deadline for submission is May 16, 2010.

Commenting on the extension, ADC CEO Shadi Ramzi Majali said, "ADC has agreed to extend the submission date as per the request of a number of local and international companies that are interested in bidding for the construction of the marine works for the New Port of Aqaba."

Mr. Majali added, "Local and international firms are being invited to jointly submit the documents in order to demonstrate their capability to undertake the construction of the marine works of the New Port of Aqaba. The joint venture approach ADC is adopting, requiring a minimum of 25 percent local firm representation in the proposals, will ensure that Jordan's local construction sector is actively participating in projects of national importance. This extension will indeed allow international and local companies wishing to submit their expression of interest to collaborate in forming consortia to bid for the project."

Consistent with the development vision for the Kingdom of Jordan and Aqaba, the new port will be constructed and operated in the southern industrial area of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone, replacing the existing Main Port of Aqaba.

This new deep water port will be constructed and operated on a renewable 30-year build-operate-transfer basis with land and port rights contributed under a long-term lease.
