Due to the national pressure, Japanese Fukushinia Nuclear Power Plant was recently shut down by Tokyo government. Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF) has recently expressed its concern about the potential impact on domestic steel industry.

JISF stated, the closure of the nuclear power plant is expected to increase the steel sector's annual expenditure to as high as JPY134 billion ($1.7 billion). It added that if the market share of alternative energies in Japan is raised from the current level of one percent to 20 percent as the government has planned, domestic steel producers would pay an additional JPY123 billion ($15.65 billion).
