Japan’s steel exports fall in August

Japan's steel exports fell 1.6 percent year on year in August due to weakening in the prices of general purpose steel products. Data from the Japanese Iron and Steel Federation show that the country's steel exports contracted to 2.598 million metric tons in August. Japan's steel exports to South Korea fell 0.6 percent year on year to 602'525 metric tons in August, while those to the US decreased 37.1 percent to 93'383 metric tons. On the other hand, Japan's exports to China rose 11.3 percent to 497'338 metric tons in August. Furthermore, Japan's steel exports to Taiwan rose 15.1 percent to 268'053 metric tons, while those to Thailand increased 11.1 percent to 357'256 metric tons.
