Japan's August steel exports up

Data from the Japanese Iron and Steel Federation show that Japan's steel exports rose 17.4 percent year on year to 3.05 million metric tons in August 2006. Japan's steel exports to South Korea rose 33.8 percent year on year to 806,000 metric tons in August, while those to China grew 13 percent to 562,000 metric tons in the same month. However, Japan's August steel exports to Thailand fell 13.9 percent to 308,000 metric tons, while those to Taiwan rose 4.2 percent to 279,000 metric tons. Japan's steel exports to the US jumped 66 percent to 155,000 metric tons.
