According to the provisional data released by the Japanese Ministry of Finance, in April this year
Japan exported 3.47 million metric tons of iron and steel products, up 62.6 percent compared to April 2009. The revenue generated by these exports amounted to JPY 297.86 billion ($3.3 billion), increasing by 44.5 percent year on year.
The country's iron and steel product imports in the month in question totaled 670,774 metric tons, climbing by 132.2 percent, while these imports amounted to a value of JPY 64.6 billion ($714.9 million), up 74.7 percent, both compared to the corresponding month of 2009.

Japan's iron and steel product exports to the
US increased by 146.6 percent to 117,000 metric tons, its exports to the EU rose by 97 percent to 29,000 metric tons, while iron and steel exports to
China increased by 35.5 percent to 665,000 metric tons, exports to the
Middle East went up by 145.9 percent to 134,000 metric tons, and iron and steel exports to the ASEAN countries rose by 111.8 percent to 823,000 metric tons, all compared to April 2009.
