Japan in talks with China for exemptions from quota

Officials from Japan and Chine held meetings last week in order to discuss any possibility that the Japanese imports are exempted from Chinese safeguard measures, put in force as of November 20, 2002 and will be valid through to May 23, 2005. According to reports from the industry, there is not yet any concrete outcome in this respect. However Japan remains positive with its expectations of compromise by China. The industry observers were expecting a more substantial decision taking into account Japan's voluntarily limiting its exports into China by 10-40%, within the period from September through to March.
