ITC to implement AD duty on South African ferrovanadium
On January 13, 2003 the
US International Trade Commission (ITC) determined that the imports of ferrovanadium from
China and South
Africa that have been previously found by the Department of Commerce (DOC) to be sold at less than fair value in the United States are causing material injury to the domestic industry.
The investigations were initiated in November 26, 2001 as a result of the petition by members of the Ferroalloys Association Vanadium Committee. Following the hearing held on November 22, 2002 ITC announced this week implementation of 116% anti-dumping duty against South African exports of ferrovanadium, according to reports.
Comments in the South African press indicate that such duty will not have much of an impact on South African exporters as many of them have already stopped exports of this commodity into the
US. Nevertheless, such action is still seen as an example of threat against South African exporters of steel and steel related products.
The records show that notable exports of ferrovanadium are effected by Highveld Steel, Vanadium and Xstrata.
