In August this year, iron ore shipments from Australia's Port Hedland regressed by 4.41 percent year on year and were down 7.08 percent month on month, totaling 13.59 million metric tons, according to Port Hedland Port Authority. In July, iron ore exports from Port Hedland had decreased by 4.25 percent compared to the previous month.
According to the released information, iron ore shipments made from Port Hedland to China amounted to 9.71 million metric tons in August, decreasing by 1.18 percent year on year and remaining unchanged as compared to July. South Korea was the second largest export destination for iron ore shipments from Port Hedland, with shipments totaling 1.51 million metric tons - down 28.39 percent year on year and down 29.07 percent over July. South Korea was followed by Japan, with iron ore exports at 1.4 millon metric tons, declining by 12.56 percent year on year and down 23.91 percent month on month.
Port Hedland handles production from mines owned by BHP Billiton, Fortescue Metals Group and Atlas Iron in the iron ore-rich Pilbara region of Western Australia.
