Iran attracts $11 billion in foreign investment

Iran's Foreign Investment Department of the Ministry of Financial Affairs has announced that the amount of foreign investment in the country totaled $11 billion in the first ten months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2007- January 20, 2008).

During the period in question, foreign investment in Iran was directed toward telecommunications, steel, petrochemicals, agriculture and small-scale industries, mostly coming from Turkey, the UAE, India, China, Germany, France, and Italy.

Speaking in relation to the country's steel industry, the official stated that over the last ten months foreign companies have expressed their interest in investing in Iran's steel sector through the construction of new steel mills.
