China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region is to continue to strengthen its efforts towards the elimination of its dated coke capacities, aiming to cut a total of more than 20 million mt of dated cement and coke capacities during the 11th Five-Year Plan period (2006-2010).

In accordance with the Chinese government's policies as regards energy conservation and pollution reduction, the authorities in the Inner Mongolia region have carried out large-scale elimination and restructuring in the local coking industry in recent years. After eliminating 6.12 million mt of coke capacities in 2006, the local authorities shut down 75 coking enterprises and eliminated a further 4.6 million mt of dated coke capacities in 2007.

According to the region's plans, Inner Mongolia is aiming to cut an additional 4.6 million mt of coke capacities in 2008 and 2009 on its way to achieving the overall elimination of 15.52 million mt of coke capacities during the 11th Five-Year Plan period.
