Industrial production in Brazil falls 2.1 percent in April

Brazil's national statistic agency, the IBGE, announced Tuesday that industrial output in Brazil dropped 2.1 percent from March in April, the most since 2008.

April's drop also follows a 3.3 percent gain in the combined January-March period. Year-on-year, industrial output also fell 1.3 percent from April 2010. April's decline is largely due to a 5.4 percent decline in machinery output, as well as a 10.1 percent decline in white goods/appliance production over the month.
