Having already achieved exports of 682,000 mt of steel products so far in the current fiscal year of 2016-17 (ends March 31), Indian state-owned steel producer Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has set a target of doubling the export volume in the financial year 2017-18, a company official said on Monday, March 6.

The official stated that the bulk of steel products exported during the current year consisted of hot rolled coil (HRC) and wire rod, while SAIL’s  range of exported products will be increased with newer products from the new cold rolling mill of Bokaro Steel  Plant (BSP) and the new universal rail mill at Bhilai Steel Plant.

The steel producer’s focus markets will be Southeast Asia and Europe, he added.

The company’s export portfolio and plans for overseas markets were discussed during its recent annual business plan meeting for the coming fiscal year, the official said.
