India’s Ministry of Steel is working to expand the list of steel products under mandatory quality control order by including three product categories, a government official said on Friday; October 20.

The official said that certification from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) will be made mandatory for high-carbon steel wire rod, galvanized pre-coated sheets and zinc/aluminum coated sheets.

As under the mandatory quality control order, production, imports, storage, trade and sales of these three product categories without BIS certification will be prohibited, the official said.

A formal notification giving effect to this will be issued shortly, he added.
