In a bid to prevent circumvention of antidumping (AD) duty, the Indian government has extended the duty to cover cold rolled flat products of stainless steel of width greater than 1,250 mm, a government official said on Thursday, October 26.
The official said that the AD duty ranging between 4.58 percent and 57.39 percent will be applicable for all imports of cold rolled stainless steel flat products above 1,250 mm width from China, South Korea, the European Union, South Africa and Taiwan.
Last year, the Indian government imposed an AD duty of 58 percent on stainless steel up to 1,250 mm in width. Indian domestic stainless steel producers have complained to their government that stainless steel importers are circumventing antidumping duty rates applicable on stainless steel of width above 1,250 mm and customizing it to narrower widths at ports of arrival, the official said.
The extension of the AD rate is based on the review conducted by the Directorate General for Anti Dumping and Allied Duties (DGAD), the official said.
