According to the Development and Reform Bureau of Heyuan City in China's southeastern province of Guangdong, in 2008 the city eliminated 2.255 million mt of disqualified steelmaking capacities and 30,000 mt of disqualified ironmaking capacities, while in January-July this year it eliminated a further 785,000 mt of disqualified steelmaking capacities.

Last year Guangdong's Development and Reform Commission insisted that Heyuan City eliminate 3.62 million mt of disqualified capacities, including 3.59 million mt of steelmaking capacities and 30,000 mt of ironmaking capacities.

The Development and Reform Commission in Guangdong has stated that Heyuan still needs to work hard to eliminate the remaining 550,000 mt of disqualified steelmaking capacities, of which 370,000 mt should have been eliminated by the end of 2008.
