Li Jianliang, deputy director of the department of ecology and environment of China’s Hebei Province, stated at a press briefing on November 19 that Hebei Province has eliminated 14.5175 million mt of steel capacity and 10.06 million mt of coal capacity in the current year as of the end of October, with the result that Hebei has already met its target set for steel capacity elimination for 2019.

Wang Dongfeng, Communist Party secretary of Hebei Province, had stated in May this year that Hebei Province would eliminate 14 million mt of excess steel capacity in 2019 and again in 2020, and keep its crude steel production capacity within 200 million mt in 2020, as previously reported by SteelOrbis.
