Haldia coke oven project deferred

Electrosteel Castings Ltd (ECL) has recently announced that it decided to delay commissioning of a new coke oven plant at Haldia until January 2005. Initially the plant was planned to be commissioned in August 2004. As previously reported by SteelOrbis, ECL planned to invest Rupees 1 billion ($21.7 million) to build a coke oven plant at Haldia. The plant would have an annual production capacity of 150'000 tons. The project is stated to have been delayed due to a shortage of skilled laborers, heavy monsoons resulting in damage in the plant's region and the delay in the delivery of certain raw materials.
