The government of the Chinese province of Guangxi has announced that it intends to strictly supervise approvals of new project applications submitted by enterprises in industries characterized by high energy consumption, high levels of emissions and excessive outputs.

Accordingly, the relevant authorities in Guangxi will carry out strict examinations during application processes, especially with regard to land approval, environmental protection, credit lines, etc. Any program that does not meet requirements on energy savings will not be approved.

The Guangxi government also stated it will not approve any capacity expansion programs in the ferroalloy, electrolytic manganese and electrolytic manganese dioxide sectors. The provincial government also said that, as the main steel base in the Beibu Gulf Economic Zone of Guangxi Province, Fangchenggang is to be built into a production base for quality steel base through restructurings of local steel enterprises.
