According to the data released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), global direct reduced iron (DRI) production in the 12 countries accounting for approximately 85 percent of total world DRI production in 2016 amounted to 7.3 million metric tons in June this year, decreasing by 2.1 percent month on month and rising by 27.1 percent year on year.
Meanwhile, world DRI output came to 43.09 million metric tons in the first half of this year, increasing by 20.5 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2017.
The worldsteel data show that Iran was the largest DRI producer among the countries surveyed in June this year. Iran’s DRI output amounted to 2.53 million metric tons in the given month. Iran was followed by India, Mexico and Egypt in June, with outputs of 2.41 million mt, 480,000 mt and 440,000 mt respectively.
