Global crude steel output for June 2005
Data released by the International Iron and Steel Institute (IISI) show that global crude steel production amounted to 89.7 million metric tons (mmt) in June 2005, up 5.2% year on year. For the first six months of the year, global crude steel production rose 7.6% year on year to 546.3 mmt. China, with production of 28.5 mmt of crude steel in June, was again the largest crude steel producing country. China's June 2005 production was 33.0% higher than the previous June. Year-to-date production reached 164.9 mmt, up 28.3% from a year earlier. In June 2005, crude steel production dropped in France (-10.1%) and Italy (-5.9%), Russia (-14.7%) and Ukraine (-8.2%). Crude steel production in the U.S. fell 11.3% year on year to 7.3 mmt in June.
