German employment in metal production falls 4.1 percent in July

At the end of July this year, 231,000 persons worked in metal production and processing in Germany. As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on the basis of provisional results, the figure was 4.1 percent less than at the end of July 2009. The number of hours worked in July this year in metal production increased by 6.1 percent from a year earlier, reaching 28 million, while the earnings (total gross wages and salaries) amounted to $795 million, increasing by 3.4 percent year on year.
 
Meanwhile, as of the end of July, employment in metal product fabrication in Germany totaled 457,000 persons, regressing by 3.4 percent, while the number of hours worked in July amounted to 60 million, up 1.5 percent, and earnings came to €1.37 billion, increasing by 2.6 percent, all compared to July 2009.
