Fortescue likely to appeal Western Australia rail access ruling

Australian emerging iron ore producer Fortescue Metals Group announced on July 1 that it will likely appeal the decision of the Australian Competition Tribunal according to which BHP Billiton's Mt Newman rail line and Rio Tinto's Hamersley rail network in West Australia's Pilbara region will not be opened to third party utilization.

However, Fortescue said that it welcomes the decision by the tribunal to uphold the declaration of open access of BHP Billiton's Goldsworthy railway line and Rio Tinto's Robe River railway line to third parties.
