According to local news reports, the former McLouth Steel site in Trenton, Michigan will be transformed into an automotive manufacturing facility after the county signed off on a $4 million deal with Crown Enterprises, Inc.

The Wayne County Commission approved the proposal Thursday that will transfer ownership from the county’s land bank to Crown Enterprises, which has until December 15 to close on the property. Under the deal, Crown Enterprises will demolish the existing buildings at McLouth within 24 months, and invest $20 million on the property within 72 months.

The McLouth property includes access to three international railways, 1,600 feet of waterfront dockage with a water depth of 28 feet, and a new roadway bridge expected to open soon. More than 1,000 new jobs will be filled at the new automotive manufacturing and logistics centers, with the company reportedly obligated to give preference to county residents as part of the deal.
