The Fengnan district of Tangshan city in China’s Hebei province is planning to continue restrictions on local steelmakers’ production in September to ensure good air quality, according to a plan for smog control from September 1 to October 4.

The production restrictions on Fengnan mills will be implemented on different scales in two stages, in the September 1-27 and September 28-October 4 periods this year.

In the first period, September 1-27, Zongheng Iron and Steel will be required to cut sintering and pelletizing capacity by 20 percent, while a cut of 50 percent will be required of sintering and pelletizing machines and a cut of 30 percent capacity at blast furnaces at another four mill, namely, Ruifeng Steel, Donghua Steel, Kaiheng Steel and Jing’an Steel.

In the second period, September 28-October 4, Zongheng Iron and Steel will be required to cut sintering and pelletizing capacity by 30 percent, while a cut of 50 percent will be required of sintering and pelletizing machines and at blast furnaces at the abovementioned four mills.

Coking plants will have to extend coke production period to 36 hours for both periods.

Casting and independent rolling (including cold rolling) enterprises within the second ring road and located outside industrial parks will halt production in the September 1-27 period, while those enterprises in Fengnan district will halt production in the second period.
