According to the European Steel Federation (Eurofer), local scrap prices in the European Union (EU) in August followed a mild uptrend, indicated increases of over three percent compared to July. The year-on-year comparison is negative for all scrap qualities, but particularly for new arisings:

As regards the indexes for the first eight months of 2012, the year-on-year price reduction for new arisings at 8.49 percent is almost double the decreases seen for demolition scrap and shredded.
