Euro area industrial output down 0.3 percent in February from January

In February this year, seasonally-adjusted industrial production decreased by 0.3 percent in the euro area and by 0.2 percent in the EU-28, as compared with January, while industrial production in January had risen by 0.3 percent both in the euro area and in the EU-28, both on month-on-month basis. In February this year compared with February last year, industrial production increased by 1.2 percent in the euro area and by 2.1 percent in the EU-28. These figures are released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Union
 
As compared to January, in February this year the production of durable goods remained stable in the euro area and was up by 0.4 percent in the EU-28, while the production of non-durable consumer goods decreased by 1.1 percent  in the euro area and was down 0.9 percent in the EU-28. In February this year, production of capital goods increased by 0.9 percent in the euro area and by 0.8 percent in the EU-28, while the production of intermediate goods increased by one percent in the euro area and by 0.8 percent in the EU-28, all month on month. Meanwhile, production of energy fell by 4.7 percent in the euro area and by 3.9 percent in the EU-28, month on month. 
 
Among the member states, in February the highest month-on-month decreases were registered in Ireland (-15.5%), France (-1.6%) and Croatia (-1.5%), and the highest increases in Bulgaria and Slovenia (both +3.6%), Hungary (+3.4%) and Latvia (+3.2%).
 
As compared to the same month of 2016, in February this year production of durable consumer goods increased by two percent in the euro area and was up by 2.4 percent in the EU-28, production of intermediate goods rose by two percent in the euro area and by 2.3 percent in the EU-28, while production of capital goods increased by 1.2 percent in the euro area and rose by 2.5 percent in the EU-28, all year on year. In February this year, production of non-durable consumer goods decreased by 2.4 percent in the euro area and by 1.5 percent in the EU-28, while production of energy grew by 2.4 percent in the euro area and was up by 1.9 percent in the EU-28, both on year-on-year basis.
 
Among the member states for which data are available, in February the largest year-on-year increases were registered in Greece (+11.2%), Latvia (+10.6%) and Estonia (+9.0%), and the largest decreases in Ireland (-10.0%) and France (-0.8%).
