Euro area annual inflation rises to 0.3 percent in January

Annual inflation in the euro area was 0.3 percent in January this year, up from 0.2 percent in December, according to a report released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities. In January 2015, the annual inflation rate was -0.6 percent.
 
Meanwhile, in the European Union (EU-28) annual inflation was 0.2 percent in January, stable compared with December. In January 2015, the annual inflation rate in the EU-28 was -0.5 percent.
 
In January this year, negative annual rates were observed in 10 states. The lowest inflation rates were observed in Poland (-1.7%), Romania (-1.5%) and Cyprus (-1.1%), while the highest were observed in Belgium (1.8%), Austria (1.4%) and Sweden (1.3%).
