According to media reports, EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malstrom and US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer will be meeting today, March 6, in order to agree on a limited trade deal after trade tensions between the two sides have escalated again.

Reuters quoted EU Commission spokesperson  Margaritis Schinas as saying that the discussions will focus on the next steps toward the implementation of the July 2018 joint statement and on EU-US cooperation on World Trade Organization reform and level playing field issues.

Recently, US President Donald Trump threatened to impose steep duties on European automobiles after the US Department of Commerce reportedly found that auto imports from the EU constituted a threat to US national security, thus renewing the tension caused by the US not exempting the EU from the Section 232 tariffs.
