EU-27 monthly industrial output up 0.6 percent in January over December

Seasonally-adjusted industrial production in the European Union member states (EU-27) in January this year grew by 0.6 percent as compared to the previous month, according to a report released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities. In December last year, industrial production in the region had slightly increased by 0.2 percent over November.
 
On the other hand, compared with January 2010, industrial production in the EU-27 in January this year improved by 6.8 percent. January was the 13th consecutive month in which a year-on-year increase was recorded.
 
Among the member states for which data are available, in January industrial production rose in fourteen member states and fell in five other member states, as compared to December. The highest month-on-month increases were registered in Malta with six percent, in Estonia with 4.2 percent and in the Czech Republic with 3.5 percent; meanwhile, the most significant declines were observed in Portugal with 4.2 percent, in Finland with 2.8 percent and in Latvia with 2.4 percent.
