Employment in German metal production edges up 1.8 percent in February

At the end of February this year, 235,000 persons worked in metal production and processing in Germany. As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on the basis of provisional results, the figure was 1.8 percent more than at the end of February 2010. The number of hours worked in February this year in metal production in Germany increased by eight percent from a year earlier, reaching 30 million, while the earnings (total gross wages and salaries) amounted to €807 million, increasing by 6.1 percent year on year.
 
Meanwhile, as of the end of February, employment in metal product fabrication in Germany totaled 468,000 persons, rising by 4.2 percent, while the number of hours worked in February amounted to 62 million, up 10.9 percent, and earnings came to €1.38 billion, increasing by 10.2 percent, all compared to February 2010.
