Hubei Province-based Echeng Iron and Steel Inc., a subsidiary of Chinese steel producer Wuhan Iron and Steel Corporation (WISCO), has lately delivered 8,700 mt of its SS400 grade common carbon wide plates to Zhangjiagang port, to be shipped to South Korea within 10 days. This is the first shipment overseas of wide plates produced by Echeng Steel.
During the period of China's 11th five-year plan (2006 to 2010), Echeng Steel has focused on structural adjustment and upgrading of its products, as well as on changing the company's approach to development. The company's wide plate production project was carried forward in line with the company's development guidelines. In order to push the product in question in the international markets, in January this year the company set up an export department and is taking advantage of WISCO's international trade platform to seize opportunities.
In February, Echeng Steel received an order for the export of wide plates to South Korea. The 8,700 mt produced were found to meet customer requirements. The successful export of these products is expected to encourage Echeng Steel in its wide plate export activity.
