Durgapur Steel to increase its special steel production

According to recent news in the market, Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP) of Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) is planning to increase its special steel production in order to increase its profit. The company also plans to increase its hot metal production to 2.27 million tons, crude steel production to 2.1 million tons and saleable steel production to 1.935 million tons in the current fiscal year. As previously reported by SteelOrbis, India aims to increase steel production capacity from current 36 million to 60 million tons by 2012. Accordingly, many mills are making investments to increase their production capacities. DSP produced 33'000 tons of special steel products during April-June period of previous fiscal. However, special steel products produced during April-June period of 2004 reached 68'900 tons. DSP forecasts production of special steel to reach 274'000 tons in 2004-05 fiscal year.
