By the end of March, 37 listed steel companies of China had applied for 7.9652 million tons of duty-free steel products for export-oriented processing trade for 2005. The 37 steel companies signed contracts totaling 1.4401 million tons through the first three months of 2005, up 32.63% year on year. The delivery quantity totaled 1.3751 million tons, up 35.91% year on year. This exceeded the annual target by 7.26%. The delivery quantity of container plate totaled 814'200 tons, medium plate 175'700 tons, and HR sheet/coil 59'800 tons to reach a total of 1.0497 million tons. The delivery quantity of flat steel products accounted for 76.34% of the total 1.3751 million tons. Wire rod, at 214'300 tons, comprised 15.58% of total deliveries. By the end of March, Baosteel, Wuhan Steel, Taiyuan Steel, Maanshan Steel, Benxi Steel, Handan Steel, Chongqing Steel, Nanjing Steel, Hangzhou Steel, Shagang, Valin Steel, Guangzhou Steel, Dalian Steel, Xingcheng Steel, Suzhou Steel, and Xingtai Steel exceeded their delivery quantity compared to the same period the previous year. The top ten steelmakers in terms of quantity delivered through the first three months of 2005 are Anshan Steel (365'900 tons), Guangzhou Steel (229'500), Baosteel (187'400 tons), Benxi Steel (132'400 tons), Wuhan Steel (113'000 tons), Xingtai Steel (59'900 tons), Maanshan Steel (40'900 tons), Hanzhou Steel (39'100 tons), Chongqing Steel (30'600 tons) and Nanjing Steel (26'700 tons). The 37 listed steel companies have delivered a total of 491'300 tons of steel products for export-oriented processing trade in March. The top five steel companies in terms of March deliveries are Guangzhou Steel (120'300 tons), Anshan Steel (95'300 tons), Benxi Steel (50'300 tons), Baosteel (46'200 tons) and Wuhan Steel (44'800 tons).
