CSC posts steel production drop of 3.2 percent in April over March

Taiwan's largest steelmaker China Steel Corporation (CSC) has announced that in April this year its steel production volume declined by 3.20 percent month on month, reaching 813,726 metric tons, while the year-on-year increase was 42.28 percent.

In April, CSC's sales volume amounted to 834,110 metric tons, decreasing by 3.47 percent as compared to March and up 36.73 percent year on year.

In the month in question, the steelmaker's sales revenues amounted to NTD 18.54 billion ($589.19 million), falling by 1.41 percent month on month and up 56.78 percent year on year, while its income before tax totaled NTD 4.73 billion ($150.32 million).

On the other hand, in the first four months of this year, CSC's total production came to 3.23 million metric tons, up 53.71 percent, its sales volume amounted to 3.26 million metric tons, up 43.58 percent, while its sales revenue stood at NTD 72.21 billion ($2.3 billion), up 48.22 percent, all compared to the corresponding period of 2009. The company's profit before tax totaled NTD 17.86 billion ($567.58 million) in the given period.
