CPI in China hits 34-month peak in June

In June this year the consumer price index (CPI) in China rose by 6.4 percent compared to June last year, constituting a 34-month peak, with prices in urban areas rising by 6.2 percent and prices in rural areas up seven percent, according to China's National Bureau of Statistics. Food prices in China rose by 14.4 percent year on year in the month in question, with non-food prices up by three percent.
 
Also in June this year, the producer price index (PPI) in China was unchanged compared with May but was up 7.1 percent compared with June last year. In June, producer purchase prices in China rose 0.2 percent compared with last month, while they were up 10.5 percent compared with the same month of last year.
