Corus restarts Margam plant blast furnace

Steelmaker Corus has restarted its reconstructed blast furnace at its Margam plant, Port Talbot, South Wales which exploded 14 months ago, resulting in death of three workers. The steelmaker reconstructed the blast furnace at a cost of £75 million and relighted same, calming down the fears of a permanent closure that were enhanced by the recent 6.000 workers layoff. The rebuilt blast furnace is designed to reach a capacity of 1.5 million tons per year, once it becomes fully operational.
