Russian mining companies are being forced to decrease their coal output from Russia's biggest coal-mining area Kuzbass, due to the shortage of railways cars for transportation.

Due to the lack of availability of railways cars, coal mining companies in Russia's Kuzbass region are unable to ship their products and, therefore, are obliged to store them instead.

As of September 1, 2008, the quantities of coal stored at Kuzbass exceeded by over three times the five million mt storage capacity, amounting approximately to 17.3 million mt.

As a result of their overflowing stocks, the mining companies are decreasing their coal output.
