Vertically integrated, Texas-based steelmaker and distributor, Commercial Metals Company (CMC), has announced it has entered into a definitive purchase agreement with German steelmaker Bruhler Stahlhandel GmbH for the acquisition of the operating assets of Bruhler's steel fabrication business in Rosslau/Saxony-Anhalt in eastern Germany. The acquisition, to be made by CMC's subsidiary Commercial Metals Deutschland GmbH, is expected to close by the end of the year. The purchased fabrication unit has an annual capacity of 40,000 metric tons, serving the construction industry in Germany. Ludo Gajdos, president of CMC Zawiercie S.A., CMC's Polish steel minimill, told the press, "Major synergies exist between this acquisition and our current Polish operations. This will complement our fabrication operation in Zawiercie, Poland, extending our reach to western Poland and eastern Germany while providing more base load for our minimill."
