Investment in the Chilean civil construction segment is expected to decline 0.6 percent in 2015, and should see no growth in the year to come, according to a forecast from the nation’s civil construction chamber, CChC.

This year’s result is said to be the industry’s worst performance since 2009, CChC noted, while the forecast for 2016 is a 0.1 percent increase (or no growth) in investments within the civil construction segment.

CChC noted the forecast for 2016 could range from no growth to a 1.9-2.1 percent decline.

As for the weak performance of investments in 2015, CChC said there was a “regression in investments in civil construction, which is explained by the weak performance of the [local] economy.”

Chilean rebar sales have been oscillating in 2015, reaching low levels but recovering in October with the year’s highest shipment rate so far. Rebar sales in October rose 1.3 percent, year-on-year, and 30.3 percent, month-on-month, to 51,568 mt.

However, in the cumulative period of January to October, Chilean rebar shipments totaled 425,293 mt, 15.5 percent down, year-on-year, from 503,766 mt in the year prior.
