According to the data released by the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA), as of the end of April (April 30) the composite steel price index (CSPI) for the Chinese domestic market was at 112.84 points, up 4.17 points or 3.84 percent month on month, while increasing by 20.2 points or 21.8 percent on year-on-year basis.
At the end of April, the CSPI long steel index was at 116.39 points, up 5.17 points or 4.65 percent month on month and increasing by 17.91 points or 18.19 percent year on year, while the CSPI flat steel index stood at 111.31 points, increasing by 3.89 points or 3.62 percent month on month and up 22.34 points or 25.11 percent year on year.
As of the end of April, among the eight main steel products monitored by the CISA, prices of high-speed wire rod, rebar, angles, medium plate, hot rolled coil (HRC), cold rolled sheet (CRS), hot dip galvanized (HDG) and hot rolled seamless pipe increased by RMB 265/mt ($41.8/mt), RMB 207/mt ($32.6/mt), RMB 47/mt ($7.4/mt), RMB 158/mt ($24.9/mt), RMB 216/mt ($34.1/mt), RMB 39/mt ($6.2/mt), RMB 82/mt ($12.9/mt) and RMB 3/mt ($0.5/mt), all compared to price levels at the end of March this year.
