Chinese steel sector’s industrial capacity usage up in Q4 from Q3

The capacity utilization rate of the ferrous metal smelting, rolling and processing industry in China was at 80.2 percent in the fourth quarter last year, up 2.5 percentage points year on year and rising by 0.8 percentage points compared to the third quarter, according to China’s National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

In 2019, the capacity utilization rate of the ferrous metal smelting, rolling and processing industry in China was at 80 percent, up two percentage points from 2018.

Total industrial capacity utilization in China in the fourth quarter was at 77.5 percent, up 1.5 percentage points year on year and 1.1 percentage points higher compared to the third quarter of the year. In 2019, total industrial capacity utilization in China was at 76.6 percent, up 0.1 percentage point year on year.
