Chinese steel production increases further in March

SteelOrbis Shanghai According to the latest statistics, China produced 32.6 million metric tons of pig iron in March 2006, up 22.2 percent year on year. The average daily pig iron output was 1.0496 million metric tons in March, up 3.72 percent from a month ago. Besides, the crude steel production of the country recorded a 20.1 percent year on year increase in March and reached 32.89 million metric tons with an average daily output of 1.0609 million metric tons, up 0.82 percent month on month. The finished steel output in March was 38.0037 million metric tons, up 21.8 percent year on year, with an average daily output of 1.2259 million metric tons, up 7.88 percent month on month. Meanwhile, metallurgical coke production of the country increased 8.8 percent year on year to 21.26 million metric tons, crude iron ore production increased 42.4 percent to 45.46 million metric tons and ferroalloy production increased 15.8 percent year on year to 921,000 metric tons in March.
