Chinese Shodou closes down facilities for Olympics

As previously promised to the authorities, China's Shoudu Iron & Steel Co. of Shougang Corp. has closed its no.1 steel making plant of 2 million ton annual capacity in Beijing last week. The reason for the closure is the preparations for the 2008 Olympics to take place in Beijing. The company will further close down its blast furnace no.5, no.2 sinter plant and No.2 coke oven, still within this year. The company annually transfers 2 million tons of its crude steel production to Qianan in Hebei province.
