According to the statistics released by China's General Administration of Customs, China's trading volume for the first four months of the current year totaled $599.41 billion in value, down 24.3 percent year on year. Meanwhile, Chinese exports for the period in question came to $337.42 billion, down 20.5 percent year on year, while imports amounted to $261.99 billion, down 28.7 percent. China's total trade surplus for the period stood at $75.43 billion, up 32.4 percent year on year.
China's total trading volume in April amounted to $170.73 billion, down 22.8 percent over the same period last year. Exports in April decreased 22.6 percent year on year to $91.94 billion, while imports were down 23 percent to $78.8 billion.
In April, the value of trade between China and the European Union, its biggest trading partner, totaled $27.3 billion, down 24.1 percent year on year and up 8.1 percent month on month. The trading volume between China and the US during the month in question was worth $23.76 billion, down 17.1 percent year on year and up 9.9 percent month on month. Finally, Japan continued to be China's third largest trading partner, with bilateral trade falling 23.8 percent year on year to $18.45 billion, but up 10.3 percent month on month.
